The FHWA has finalized comprehensive changes in signing standards. These new standards will require government agencies to maintain minimum levels of reflectivity on traffic signs and an upgrade to higher performance reflective sheeting may be necessary. The purpose of this grant is to help provide financial support to local government agencies that are members of NACE in their efforts to upgrade their signage to align with the new FHWA minimum standards.

Grant criteria:
  • Applicant must be a county or city agency
  • Member in good standing with NACE
  • Agency is committed to upgrading sign standards from engineer grade Type I or II to a prismatic material (Type III, IV, X or proposed Type XI)
NACE invites you to apply for a grant. Select the sign-up button on the left to apply for your grant.

Before applying for a grant you will be asked to set up an account with a specific username and password, this will allow you to save your information and to return at a later date. You will then be asked to provide some information about you and your agency. Upon completing this you will then be able to begin applying for a grant.

The grant application requires a minimum request of 500 sq ft. of sheeting but there is no maximum limit on the amount of sheeting you can request. Please note that the grant is not intended to cover the total cost of either roll goods or finished signs. The grant is determined based on the square feet of retrorefective sheeting material. The NACE Grant may provide a savings of 30-50% off the cost of the sheeting material based on the amount and type of sheeting material purchased.

Grant Guidelines:
  1. The grant must be used to upgrade current sign materials from engineer grade (Type I or II) material to a prismatic material (Type III/IV/X or Proposed Type XI).
  2. The grant must be used within six months of grant award date.
  3. Orders must specify 3M™ High Intensity Prismatic Sheeting (Type III/IV/X) or 3M™ Diamond Grade™ DG³ Reflective Sheeting (Proposed Type XI) material.
  4. The grant number must be supplied at the time of the order whether direct with 3M or through a sign fabricator.
  5. The order placed directly with 3M or a fabricator must correspond to the information submitted in the grant application.
  6. The entire grant must be redeemed against one order.
  7. Grant applications for both roll goods (in-house fabrication) and finished signs or sign faces (from a sign fabricator) will receive two separate grant numbers for ordering purposes. When applying for both, they must be applied for on the same application.
  8. Only one grant is available per agency.

*NACE and 3M are partnering to provide this grant program. Grants are partially subsidized by 3M.
